Recently, PowerChina and Shanghai Giant Energy Technology Co., Ltd. officially signed the "100MW Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage EPC General Contracting Contract", officially winning the bid for the world's first set of air compressed energy storage project.
The project has a construction scale of 100 MW/400 MWh and was approved as a national renewable energy demonstration zone demonstration project in 2018. It also received key support from the National Renewable Energy Demonstration Zone Industrial Innovation Development Project and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Class A Pilot Project. After completion, the project will become the world's first 100 MW new compressed air energy storage system.
Compressed air energy storage system has the advantages of large scale, high efficiency, low cost and environmental protection. It is considered to be a large-scale energy storage technology with great development potential. It can convert unstable electricity generated by renewable energy into stable, controllable high-quality electricity, effectively solve the problem of wind and solar power abandonment, and realize large-scale consumption of renewable energy power generation. At the same time, it can realize power peak regulation, frequency regulation, phase regulation, voltage support, rotating reserve, emergency response and other energy storage services, and improve the efficiency, stability and safety of the power system.
