On March 10, the remote-controlled load switch was successfully closed following the operator's instructions, and the Three Gorges New Energy Qinghai Xitieshan Liushaping Phase II 100MW wind power supporting energy storage project was successfully connected to the grid.
The "wind power + energy storage" system solution is an important measure to solve a series of problems of traditional wind farms. As the first high-altitude wind farm supporting energy storage project of Three Gorges New Energy, the construction of this project is a key step for Three Gorges New Energy in exploring the research of wind farm energy storage systems and improving the availability of equipment.
Three Gorges New Energy actively responded to the national call for electric energy storage to participate in the pilot work of the power auxiliary service compensation (market) mechanism in the "Three Norths" region. The project officially started on June 20, 2020. The energy storage system is planned to be configured in the switch station of the Liushaping Phase II wind farm in Xitieshan, Qinghai, according to 10% of the construction scale. A total of 5 2.52 MW/2.408 MWh energy storage sub-arrays are set up, with a total scale of 12.6 MW/12.04 MWh. The project relies on the wind storage AC coupling control algorithm and energy digital management to realize primary frequency regulation, automatic power generation control and reactive power control functions, smooth wind power output, and effectively solve the problem of wind power abandonment and power restriction.
The on-site person in charge said: "When the wind is strong and power is limited, the wind turbines can generate electricity in one hour to fully charge these energy storage containers. When the power grid is not limited, the electricity stored in these energy storage systems can be sent out. In addition, its frequency regulation response speed is fast, which will have a qualitative improvement in the power generation of our station."
Wind power generation is intermittent and volatile due to factors such as weather. Under the vision of carbon neutrality, the development of new energy will accelerate the transformation from supplementary energy to main energy. Energy storage, as the key to supporting the large-scale development of new energy, has attracted much attention from the industry.
After the project is successfully connected to the grid, it can effectively improve the accuracy of wind power prediction and significantly improve the grid's ability to accept wind power. At the same time, through the first-hand practical data verification of the project and the mastery of wind storage capacity optimization configuration and control strategy, it provides support for the large-scale application and promotion of the Three Gorges "wind storage" system, and also lays a solid foundation for Qinghai Province to explore the development of new energy supporting energy storage projects.
