Recently, the first domestic catalytic combustion heating dehydrogenation device prototype independently developed by the 712 Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation was successfully started up and debugged smoothly, marking a major breakthrough in the key technology research and development of the engineering application of organic liquid hydrogen storage.

Hydrogen catalytic combustion heating technology is an ideal solution to the heating problem in the dehydrogenation process of organic liquids. However, it has difficulties such as fast hydrogen combustion speed, difficulty in reaction temperature control, and high requirements for heat transfer materials. There are no mature solutions to learn from at home or abroad.

In response to the above-mentioned technical difficulties, the Hydrogen Source Research Laboratory of the Fuel Cell Division of the 712 Institute established a key technology research group for catalytic combustion. After more than a year, the R&D personnel have overcome a number of technical difficulties and successfully completed the prototype trial production and full-power operation test of the first domestic catalytic combustion heating and dehydrogenation device. They have also formed a number of independent intellectual property rights and have accumulated good technical experience in the field of hydrogen catalytic combustion heating technology.

The successful trial run of the prototype of the device indicates that my country has not only overcome the technical difficulties of hydrogen catalytic combustion heating, but also has important significance for solving the technical bottleneck of hydrogen storage and transportation of high-power fuel cell systems. This technology is expected to be applied in engineering in the fields of green ships, fuel cell power stations, large-scale hydrogen storage and transportation, etc.
