The reporter learned from State Grid yesterday (December 20) that in 2020, State Grid will accelerate the construction of power grids in deeply impoverished areas.

Data released by the State Grid Corporation of China shows that it is expected to complete grid investment of about 450 billion yuan in 2019. Among them, 159 billion yuan will be invested in rural grids, completing the new round of rural grid transformation and upgrading tasks determined by the national plan one year ahead of schedule.

In particular, the construction of power grids in the deeply impoverished areas of the "three regions and three prefectures" has been significantly accelerated. By the end of 2019, the construction of power grids in the Tibetan areas of Gansu and Linxia Prefecture, as well as the four prefectures in southern Xinjiang, will be completed ahead of schedule. By the first half of 2020, the construction of power grids in the Tibetan areas of Tibet, Qinghai and Sichuan provinces, and Liangshan Prefecture in Sichuan will be completed.

Feng Kai, Director of the Development Department of State Grid Corporation of China: (In the past) some areas used photovoltaics and isolated power grids to provide electricity to villagers. During this transformation process, our large power grid connected these independent villages and towns, very small isolated power grids, and powered them with the large power grid, improving the quality of the entire power supply.

In addition, the State Grid will continue to arrange a certain amount of investment in rural power grid construction in 2020. It will promote the extension of the 750 kV power grid in Northwest China to southern Xinjiang, complete the Tibet-Central-Ngari interconnection project, and connect all 74 counties in Tibet to the grid, so that more people can use electricity.
