Due to its special geographical location, grid and power supply structure, Gansu Power Grid has encountered unprecedented problems and challenges in its development process, and has also created many firsts in my country's power history. Liujiaxia Power Plant is the first million-kilowatt power plant in China. At that time, the maximum load of Gansu Power Grid was only 800,000 kilowatts. The first 330 kV Liujiaxia-Tianshui-Guanzhong transmission line in China was built, and 10 domestic academicians directly or indirectly participated in the demonstration project; Gansu Chengxian-Bikou 220 kV controllable series compensation device is the first domestic power electronics device in China, which opened a new chapter in the domestic application of power electronics technology in my country, and the project produced 2 academicians; Qinghai Guanting to Gansu Lanzhou East 750 kV transmission line is the first ultra-high voltage line in China; ±800 kV Jiuhu UHV DC project is the world's first ultra-high voltage DC project mainly for long-distance transmission of new energy. At present, the characteristics of Gansu power grid are undergoing qualitative changes, and the complexity of safe and stable operation is unprecedented. Solving the problems of Gansu power grid has practical reference significance for the construction of energy Internet. The establishment of the academician workstation provides intellectual support for State Grid Gansu Power to rely on high-end talents to solve the problems and challenges it faces.

Strive to break the boundaries of professional industries. State Grid Gansu Electric Power promotes the construction of ubiquitous power Internet of Things, fully applies modern information technologies and advanced communication technologies such as mobile Internet and artificial intelligence, strives to break professional and industry boundaries, and realizes the interconnection of all things and human-machine interaction in all links of the power system. At present, there are professional barriers within the enterprise, and the coordination, cooperation and sharing between departments and professions are insufficient, and many technical problems encountered by enterprises need to be solved jointly across departments and professions. It is far from enough for State Grid Gansu Electric Power to rely solely on the technical and talent strength of technical support units such as the Electric Power Research Institute and the Economic Research Institute to tackle scientific and technological problems. It is necessary to plan and layout on a larger scale. A project requires personnel from multiple departments and units to form a joint team, use the team's joint efforts to complete scientific and technological projects, and cultivate more scientific and technological talents during the implementation of the project. State Grid Gansu Electric Power is planning to build a power market laboratory, which will be built in Gansu Electric Power Research Institute, but the selection of project leaders will no longer be based on units as teams, but will be generated from departments such as the control center and the trading center, trying to break professional barriers and maximize the release of the existing talent advantages of State Grid Gansu Electric Power. The "Distributed Power and Smart Agriculture Coordinated Development Demonstration Project" carried out by State Grid Gansu Electric Power seeks the combination and innovation points between new energy and agriculture, which is highly consistent with the construction of ubiquitous power Internet of Things. It combines the service of the "Belt and Road" construction, photovoltaic poverty alleviation, and local consumption of distributed power sources, and strives to create a field demonstration base for the National Key Laboratory of New Energy and Energy Storage. The "Henan-Grid-Source Coordinated Control Technology Project" of State Grid Gansu Electric Power brings together experts from customers, power grids, and power sources to jointly discuss the feasibility of coordinated control, achieve win-win results for cross-industry participants, promote the construction of ubiquitous power Internet of Things, and promote the innovation and development of power science and technology in edge science practice.

Strive to achieve breakthroughs in key areas and promote them on a large scale. The information and communication foundation of Gansu Power Grid is relatively weak, and there is not enough money to carry out large-scale transformation and upgrading. Based on the current situation, State Grid Gansu Electric Power promotes the construction of ubiquitous power Internet of Things in Gansu through innovation, determines the main direction in combination with the characteristics of Gansu Power Grid, and promotes the construction persistently. At present, State Grid Gansu Electric Power cultivates the research directions of six scientific and technological research teams as breakthrough points for scientific and technological innovation, and at the same time, explores the research directions of academician workstations. In addition, State Grid Gansu Electric Power relies on key projects to carry out scientific and technological innovation, takes engineering projects as demonstration projects of scientific and technological projects, and incorporates the scientific and technological achievements generated during the implementation of engineering projects into scientific and technological projects. In 2018, State Grid Gansu Electric Power successfully applied for a State Grid Corporation of China science and technology project "Research on Emergency Control Technology of New Energy at Multiple DC Weak Sending Ends" around the Northwest Power Grid System Protection Project. In short, Gansu Power Grid's scientific and technological innovation cannot be based on a large amount of capital investment, but must "use power to do things" and "use momentum to do things."

Open up growth channels for all kinds of talents. Talents, especially leading talents, play a prominent role in scientific and technological innovation. Scientific and technological talents require a long-term training process, and a relatively stable environment needs to be created for talent training. The establishment of the academician workstation helps to create a stable and good growth environment for young people.
