At 0:00 on August 23, 2019, local time in Brazil, the Belo Monte Phase II UHV DC transmission project in Brazil, invested, constructed and operated by State Grid Corporation of China, successfully completed system commissioning, rated power operation test and key 1.33 times overload test. The system operated smoothly and the equipment was in normal condition, achieving substantial breakthroughs.

The project has a rated voltage of ±800 kV, a rated transmission power of 4 million kilowatts, and a total length of 2,539 kilometers. It transmits clean hydropower from the Amazon River Basin in northern Brazil to the Rio load center in the southeast, which can meet the electricity needs of the local 22 million people. It is the largest power transmission project in Brazil and an important energy transmission channel in the north-south direction. The project started construction in August 2017 and is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in November 2019.

This project is a key project for China's ultra-high voltage going global, an important achievement of State Grid Corporation of China in serving and participating in the "Belt and Road" construction, and a model of China-Pakistan cooperation in the field of infrastructure. It is of great significance to promote China's advanced transmission technology and equipment to go abroad and promote international cooperation and mutual benefit and win-win results in advantageous production capacity.
