Greentech Media held its fifth annual Energy Storage Summit in San Francisco and made some big predictions for renewable energy in 2019. One of them is that battery-backed solar installations will break records in 2019.

The summit brings together innovators, energy storage experts, financiers and other industry professionals for presentations, discussions and networking.

At the opening ceremony, industry leader Ravi Manghani made five key predictions for energy storage systems such as solar cells in 2019. These questions revolved around the drivers of the energy storage market, such as cost and government policy, and the impact on energy storage facilities.

The prediction results are as follows:

Large-scale electric energy storage will resume deployment in 2018, with the decline in the number of such installations mainly due to delays and uncertainty in US government policy. However, recent progress on this issue should lead to an increase in installations.

As prices for both solar panels and battery storage systems fall, battery-backed solar installations will break records, especially when those prices are combined with government credits, which is likely to happen. By 2023, these systems could be in direct competition with traditional generators.

Battery-backed solar installations are expected to break records in 2019.
