Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TYO:6503) has received an order to supply a 240MW/720MWh battery storage energy management system for a Japanese factory, the company said in an announcement yesterday.
Mitsubishi Electric's BLEnDer RE energy management system will monitor the batteries and power conditioners (PCS) at the Kita-Kitotoyotomi substation in Toyota, Hokkaido, owned by the Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Company.
The order was given by Chiyoda Corporation, which is responsible for designing, engineering and constructing the so-called wind turbine grid reinforcement pilot project, which is led by Hokkaido and supported by the Natural Resources and Energy Bureau of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Hokkaido plans to deploy transmission facilities and batteries to connect more than 500MW of wind power generation capacity in northern Hokkaido to the grid. The batteries should contribute to a stable power supply.
The energy storage system is expected to be operational by March 2023. Mitsubishi Electric said it believes it will be the largest system of its kind in the world.
