On June 8, 2016, at the test site of TUV (German Rheinland Laboratory) in Shenzhen, witnessed by the technical representative of Panasonic Japan and the Panasonic team of Hong Kong, the electric motorcycle battery (17S8P) provided by the Boliwei Battery R&D team perfectly passed the slow puncture standard requirements of Panasonic Japan. Dongguan Boliwei Battery Co., Ltd. thus became the world's first company to pass the Panasonic NCR18650BD battery cell puncture standard.

Prior to this, there were only two battery packs in the world that could pass the acupuncture standard of Panasonic Corporation of Japan, namely Tesla (electric cars) in the United States and Gogoro (electric motorcycles), a start-up company in Taiwan. The battery cells that passed the test were NCR18650BE. Boliwei's battery pack uses NCR18650BD. The discharge current of high-energy-density lithium batteries is larger than that of NCR18650BE. According to the data of the acupuncture test, it is more difficult to pass the acupuncture test. But the Boliwei team likes to challenge such difficult and demanding projects. From the chairman and general manager of the company to the technical team, they worked together step by step and cooperated. It took three months and several failures to finally overcome the technical difficulties and become the third company in the world to pass the TUV acupuncture test after Tesla and Gogoro. What is even more valuable is that Boliwei is the first company that can pass the 3200mAh high-energy-density acupuncture test.

Taking advantage of the opportunity of this project, Boliwei's technical team has applied for 5 invention patents, 1 utility model patent and 1 appearance patent.

The battery cell puncture test refers to the puncture test of the battery pack with a designated steel needle according to the corresponding national or industry standards. The ideal test result is that the punctured battery cell can smoke or burn, but other battery cells cannot be abnormal. The purpose of the puncture test is to ensure that in the daily use of the battery pack, once a hard impact or a quality accident occurs to the battery cell, it can be guaranteed that only a single battery cell is damaged, and it will not affect the entire battery pack or even cause a greater safety accident, especially for battery packs of electric vehicles and electric motorcycles. Battery packs that can pass the puncture test are superior to ordinary battery packs in terms of materials, processes, designs, manufacturing methods, etc., and their safety will be greatly improved and the cost will be relatively high.
