Key directions for the development of my country's energy storage technology and industry
Energy storage is a very important part of the "Third Industrial Revolution". China should attach importance to the development of this strategic cutting-edge technology and seize the technological commanding heights of this emerging industry.
As a strategically significant frontier technology and strategic emerging industry with strong interdisciplinary, multiple technical links and a long industrial chain, the corresponding technical research and industrial development should also be implemented in stages. In the near term (2016-2017), electrochemical energy storage is the main research direction, focusing on the research and application demonstration of lithium titanate and lead-carbon batteries that have achieved technological breakthroughs abroad and have significant application prospects. In the medium term (2018-2020), new long-life, low-cost lithium-ion and lead-carbon battery energy storage and deep-cold compressed air energy storage are the main research directions, while preliminary exploratory research on capacity high-temperature thermal storage and efficient hydrogen energy storage is carried out. In the long term (2021-2030), the focus is on breakthroughs in the industrialization technology of all-solid-state batteries, large-scale deep-cold liquefied compressed air energy storage and supporting engineering technology for efficient thermal storage, and key technologies for large-scale efficient hydrogen energy storage.
It is expected that through 10 to 15 years of continuous scientific research and industrial development, we will eventually master the mass production technology of high-safety all-solid-state batteries for energy storage applications, achieve original breakthroughs in key material technologies, and exceed 60% in liquefied compressed air energy storage efficiency, forming a full industrial chain system covering basic research, trial production, and large-scale production of energy storage, driving the interactive, healthy and sustainable development of related industries such as new materials, new energy, and high-end equipment.
