Fairchild announced that its 650V field-stop trench IGBT has been selected for use in Growatt New Energy’s latest generation of solar inverters. With this IGBT, Growatt’s new 5K-HF solar inverter has a 20% increase in power density.

Jin Zhao, Vice President of Fairchild's High Power Industrial Applications Division, said that Growatt's use of the company's 650V field-stop trench IGBTs in the next generation of solar inverters highlights the company's IGBT features and capabilities. These IGBTs use the company's innovative field-stop technology to provide better performance for solar inverters, UPS, welding machines, telecommunication equipment, ESS, and PFC applications that require lower conduction and switching losses.

Growatt Vice President and R&D Director Wu Liangcai pointed out that the new generation of solar inverters uses the fastest TO247 4L package IGBT in the industry. By using the new IGBT wafer and 4L packaging process technology, the company can fully utilize the characteristics of IGBT by significantly increasing the switching frequency of the drive signal, thereby obtaining a better safe operating area without significantly increasing the power consumption of the semiconductor. In addition, the company can also use smaller magnetic components, thereby significantly reducing the system size and improving the cost performance.
