According to a survey conducted by market research firm IHS, more than 300 solar installers, distributors and EPC companies are increasingly inclined to use string inverters. About 80% of buyers said they may use string inverters for systems larger than 100kW. Nearly half of the respondents said they are considering using string inverters for systems larger than 1MW, while only 17% of the respondents said so last year.

IHS senior PV market analyst Gilligan said the survey confirmed that the acceptance of string inverters in large systems has been increasing over the past year, reflecting IHS's expectation that these products will gain share in several key PV markets. The most common reason why solar buyers in large systems increasingly prefer string inverters over central inverters is that the former provides more flexibility in system design and minimizes losses.
Li Zhentao, marketing director of Suzhou Hongpeng New Energy, told reporters that judging from the current sales, string inverters have indeed been increasingly accepted by customers. Enterprises will also take various measures to improve efficiency. For example, Hongpeng New Energy will combine photovoltaic optimizers with low-cost string inverters to minimize the system cost and increase efficiency while ensuring the power generation income of the power station in the later stage.
All enterprises are also focusing on string inverters. Sungrow released a new series of string inverters at the Intersolar Europe 2014 exhibition held in Munich, Germany on June 4. The product is a single-phase low-power string inverter designed for the home photovoltaic market, with an output power of 2.5kW to 5kW.
