The first national mandatory standard for the lithium battery industry, GB 31241-2014 "Safety Requirements for Lithium-ion Batteries and Battery Packs for Portable Electronic Products", has been officially implemented. This means that from August 1, 2015, the state will conduct random inspections. The lithium battery and related electronics industries need to pay close attention to the implementation of the new national standard. Major cutting-edge testing institutions such as the China Quality Certification Center and Beijing Testing can help companies highlight their brand image and win the Chinese market with quality.

Lithium batteries have entered thousands of households and are widely used in various electronic devices. However, improper production, transportation or use can cause fire and explosion. According to the investigation results released by the media, the explosion accidents in many places are mainly caused by battery quality. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine recently conducted a nationwide survey of power banks and found that all 32 batches of products and 224 samples had quality risk problems. Among them, 6 batches caught fire and exploded during the heavy impact test of the battery cells. Battery safety accidents can affect property at the least and life at the most. In the face of frequent battery safety accidents, GB 31241-2014 came into being. At the same time, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine issued the "Regulations on the Post-processing of Manufacturers of Unqualified Products in the National Supervision and Sampling of Product Quality" (No. 57 of 2015) (hereinafter referred to as the "New Regulations") on its official website, and it was officially implemented on July 1, 2015. Unqualified products in the national sampling will be banned from sale. In serious cases, the industrial and commercial administration and other relevant administrative licensing departments will be notified to revoke relevant licenses. How to deal with a series of strict measures from the government has become a difficult problem that companies urgently need to solve.

As the most stringent and comprehensive national standard for lithium-ion batteries in history, GB 31241-2014 comprehensively considers the most common electrical safety tests, environmental safety tests, and battery pack and system protection circuit safety tests for lithium-ion batteries and battery packs. The standard integrates various risk factors in real life, sets strict conditions for product safety control for common quality problems such as insufficient capacity, severe degradation of discharge performance under low temperature conditions, and short cycle life. This standard can comprehensively help enterprises standardize production behavior, improve product quality, respond to new national regulations, enhance brands, and win the market.

Before the standard was officially implemented, lithium batteries produced by a large number of lithium battery companies that focus on brand growth, such as Dongguan Maike, Ningbo Veken, Zhongshan Tianmao, Huizhou Deruida, Shenzhen Bettery, etc., have successfully passed the test of the Beijing Testing Battery Laboratory. This means that the batches of lithium batteries produced by the above companies have reached the highest level of product safety required by the country, and consumers can use them without worry.
