Recently, TUV SUD Greater China Group (hereinafter referred to as TUV SUD) held the kick-off meeting of the 2014 comparison test of power lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles in Beijing. This comparison test activity was hosted by the China Chemical and Physical Power Sources Association (hereinafter referred to as CIAPS). As the only testing organization and organizer of the activity, TUV SUD will provide and execute complete testing solutions for all stages of the entire comparison test activity. The event attracted many well-known domestic electric vehicle power battery manufacturers to participate.

In 2013, TUV SUD successfully cooperated with the China Chemical and Physical Power Industry Association to carry out the first comparison test of power lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. A total of 10 domestic high-quality lithium-ion battery manufacturers participated in the comparison, including 11 power battery cell products from Tianjin Lishen, ATL, BYD, AVIC Lithium Battery, Delong Energy, Mengguli, Zhongju Battery, Chaowei, Harbin Guangyu, and Wuhan Lixing. With the strong support of all participating companies, the comparison test was successfully completed, and the comparison test results were officially released on the association website and TUV SUD official website on December 15, 2013, and released through multiple media such as China Battery Network.

Through this comparison activity, each battery manufacturer understands the various safety indicators of their products and compares them with the safety levels of batteries in Europe, America, Japan and South Korea, so that the companies can improve their products in a targeted manner. According to the evaluation and comparison test results in 2013, the safety level of the cells produced by domestic power battery companies is very close to that of the cells produced by Japanese, Korean, European and American power battery companies. More and more battery manufacturers are confident that they can master the manufacturing level of lithium-ion cells for electric vehicles, and thus enter the field of power battery manufacturing for electric vehicles.

This year, TUV SUD once again cooperated with the China Chemical and Physical Power Sources Industry Association to launch the second comparison test activity. In addition to batteries for electric vehicles, it also added comparisons of energy storage batteries, and directly issued TUV SUD certification certificates to qualified samples to facilitate product sales for participating companies.

Based on the 2013 power battery cell safety comparison test, we conduct vibration, mechanical shock, temperature cycle and forced internal short circuit, overcharge, over discharge, external short circuit, extrusion, puncture, thermal abuse, free fall and other abuse tests with reference to IEC62660-3, and issue TUV SUD certificates to qualified samples (for units that have participated in the 2013 power lithium-ion battery cell comparison test for electric vehicles, TUV SUD accepts the 2013 test data for difference testing).
