Shenzhen BYD Daimler New Technology Co., Ltd. (BDNT), China's first joint venture focused on new energy vehicles, and ABB, a world-leading power and automation technology group, announced a strategic collaboration to provide home DC fast chargers for DENZA's first electric vehicle over the next six years.

The wall-mounted charger features a range of innovative designs for ease of use and safety, including a mobile app that allows owners to monitor the charging status of their vehicle and receive notifications anytime, anywhere. The first units will be delivered in mid-2014 and will be sold alongside electric vehicles through the DENZA dealer network.

The electric vehicle industry is one of the seven strategic emerging industries that China is vigorously promoting. At the same time, China will also take the lead in the field of home fast charging of electric vehicles. The cooperation between DENZA and ABB will help promote the application of electric vehicles in China and promote the sustainable development of urban transportation.

The Chinese government has introduced a new national standard for DC fast charging technology to encourage technological innovation in the electric vehicle sector and increase market acceptance. The construction of urban charging networks is crucial to the promotion of electric vehicles, and the introduction of this standard will enable consumers to charge conveniently at home or in public places. China's public DC fast charging infrastructure network is also expected to be launched soon.

Mr. Lian Yubo, CEO of BDNT, said: "DENZA electric vehicles represent a significant step forward in sustainable transportation for the Chinese automotive market. Choosing the right infrastructure partner is critical to the realization of this innovative concept. ABB is our ideal technology partner."

The DENZA electric car has a range of more than 200 kilometers and is one of the first electric cars with a long range in the Chinese market. Market research shows that consumers value a long range, but at the same time expect a short charging time. DENZA will provide consumers with a convenient and fast charging method, and they can choose to charge at home, work or compatible public charging stations.

“We are very proud to be working with BDNT to drive sustainable urban mobility,” said ABB CEO Ulrich Spiesshofer. “By offering fast charging for new vehicles, DENZA is taking an important step towards making electric vehicle charging a breeze for potential buyers. ABB’s electric vehicle charging solutions are rapidly expanding around the world, combining our foundational technologies with our strengths in power electronics, software and power distribution.”

With the advancement of technology and market innovation, the introduction of national standards, and the stimulation of relevant incentive policies, China's electric vehicle market will achieve rapid development in the next few years. ABB's pilot projects with related independent brands and local municipalities began in 2010, and in 2013, it began to establish a special organization to support the research and development, production, logistics and services of electric vehicles.

Shenzhen BYD Daimler New Technology Co., Ltd. is a joint venture established by BYD, a leading Chinese electric vehicle company, and Daimler AG, a world-leading manufacturer of luxury and commercial vehicles. It was formally established in 2010. The joint venture focuses on the research and development of new energy vehicle technologies, developing environmentally friendly, energy-saving, safe, comfortable and high-quality electric vehicles, and is committed to becoming China's most successful new energy vehicle manufacturer and promoting the development and progress of new energy vehicles. DENZA's first pure electric vehicle will make its global debut at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.
