Yesterday, I was programming the experimental program of Mega8 to control the flashing of LED lights. During the experiment, I found that the power supply and Mega8 were very hot after powering on. The power supply part uses 78M05, 12VDC input, 30 ohm resistor in series, and the load is 24 small LED lights. After programming, I found that Mega8 was very hot whether it was loaded or unloaded. Finally, I found that the problem was in the program.

For unused ports, when the program is initialized, they are all set to output high level (DDR=1 PORT=1), and the voltage drop on the input resistor is nearly 4V. When it is set to high impedance (DDR=0 PORT=0), the voltage on the resistor drops to 1.3V.
It seems that unused I/O ports must be set to high-impedance state (DDR=0 PORT=0).
