The addressing mode that directly gives the operand in the instruction is called immediate addressing. This operand is called an immediate number, such as the instruction:
MOV A, #3AH
This instruction is to send the immediate value 3AH to the accumulator. Since the internal memory of the MCS-51 microcontroller is an 8-bit memory, the immediate value is generally an 8-bit binary number. In the MCS-51 instruction system, # is used to identify the immediate value.
In some instructions, 16-bit immediate values are also used, such as:
MOV DPTR, #0123H
This instruction sends the 16-bit immediate number 0123H to the data pointer DPTR (used to address the memory of the 16-bit address). DPTR is composed of two special function registers DPH and DPL. DPTR will be used in the following addressing mode.
