MediaTek responds to its plan to invest in British start-ups: focusing on artificial intelligence and IC design technology

According to news on November 28, the British Global Investment Summit was held in London yesterday. More than 200 CEOs of heavyweight companies around the world attended, including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, etc.

The British Prime Minister's Office mentioned that MediaTek, a leading company in the semiconductor industry, plans to invest in several British innovative technology companies in the next five years, with a total investment of 10 million pounds (IT House note: currently about 90.3 million yuan). In response, MediaTek responded that its investment is mainly in artificial intelligence and its own IC design technology.

The industry pointed out that MediaTek has strengthened its global investment in 2015 and established a strategic investment department, MediaTek Venture Capital, with a reserve of US$300 million to invest in new startups in Greater China, Europe, Japan and North America, targeting semiconductor systems and equipment, network infrastructure, and services. Start-ups in fields such as the Internet of Things (IoT).

Currently, MediaTek has an office in Cambridge and Kent, UK, which are mainly focused on research and development. MediaTek’s investment cooperation projects in the UK in recent years include cooperating with the smartphone company Bullitt Group to create the world’s first smartphone using two-way satellite communication technology, and cooperating with the International Maritime Satellite Communications Company (Inmarsat) to provide “satellite direct connection” communication services.

The British Prime Minister's Office also pointed out on the 26th that before this year's summit, major investors from various countries had committed investment plans totaling up to 29.5 billion pounds (currently approximately 266.385 billion yuan), three times the amount of the previous summit in 2021.
