[Plano, Texas, USA, April 8, 2024] Diodes Incorporated (Diodes) has introduced three new Hall-effect switches: AH1899A/B/S, which operate at low supply voltage and very low quiescent current to extend the battery life of mobile and portable devices . AH1899A/B/S can be used to detect whether the lid and casing of portable electronic devices (such as smartphones and tablets) are open. It can also be used for proximity detection in digital cameras, game consoles, and general non-contact switches.
The three switch devices are suitable for supply voltages from 1.1V to 2.0V and integrate seamlessly with the new 1.2V application chipset to ensure ease of use. The energy-saving architecture of the product can reduce the average operating current to a minimum of 0.95µA at 1.2V. The switch device has a built-in sleep clock system to help save energy as much as possible in the system to extend the operating time of battery-powered equipment.
The omnipolar AH1899A/B/S switches can operate with either the N-pole or S-pole near the package surface . Using an advanced chopper-stabilized topology, the magnetic operating point (BOP) and release point (BRP) exhibit minimal drift characteristics over supply voltage and temperature. Two sensitivity level options allow designers to flexibly define the switch response time for application design. The AH1899B and AH1899S switches operate when the magnetic field strength (B) exceeds 30 gauss and release when it is less than 20 gauss. The AH1899A is a more sensitive model that operates at a magnetic field strength of 18 gauss and releases at a strength of 12 gauss. If the magnetic field strength is not sensed, all three models will remain closed.
The three switch devices are packaged in the X2-DFN1010-4 (Type B) surface mount package, which can help designers save circuit board space. The device size is only 1.0mm x 1.0mm and the height is 0.4mm, which is smaller than other traditional devices. In addition, the internal circuit integrates pull-up and pull-down resistors, which can save the PCB area usually required by external components.
The three switch models, AH1899A, AH1899B and AH1899S, are now in production and available in quantities of 5,000 . These model numbers and the complete portfolio of Hall-effect sensors can be found on the Hall-effect Sensor Parts Selector page.
