TDK Corporation has expanded its SMD coupled inductor product portfolio with the launch of high-performance EPCOS ERUC23 series components (B82559S*) . A coupled inductor is an inductor in which two coils share a magnetic core. The ERUC23 series offers six models to choose from, all using flat wire windings; the coupled inductor has an inductance range from 1.4 µH to 4.1 µH, a saturation current range from 50 A to 97 A, and a single coil DC impedance from 0.82 mΩ to 1.85 mΩ; the product has a footprint of only 26.8 x 13.8 mm², heights ranging from 13.7 mm to 14.0 mm, and an operating temperature range of -40°C to +150°C. This series of products complies with AEC-Q200 and RoHS standards, and the product design is suitable for placement with fully automatic placement machines.

Coupled inductors are very versatile and are suitable for single- and dual-phase buck-boost converters (especially for interleaved voltage converters that convert 48 V to 12 V). The product uses a two-coil coupling design to reduce ripple current and improve conversion efficiency. Compared with designs using two independent inductors, the ERUC23 series of coupled inductors can significantly reduce the board space.

main application

  • Single and dual-phase buck-boost converters

  • 48 V to 12 V interleaved converter (flying capacitor converter)

Main features and advantages

  • High saturation current

  • Low DC impedance

  • Fully automatic placement machine placement

  • Compact package, lower ripple current and higher efficiency
