Beijing, China - Analog Devices, Inc. today announced the launch of its expanded battery management system (BMS) product line, which can meet ASIL-D functional safety levels and provide new innovative low-power features for continuous battery monitoring. This series of new devices further enhances the differentiation of ADI BMS platform, provides the industry's proven ultra-high accuracy, and supports all major battery chemistries - including cobalt-free LFP (lithium iron phosphate) - for mass-market electric vehicles (EV) and energy storage systems (ESS) for battery pack recycling.
As consumers increasingly turn to greener modes of transportation and governments take action to create a sustainable future, sales of all-electric vehicles continue to accelerate. The challenge facing automakers is how to cost-effectively scale their electric vehicle platforms while meeting evolving global safety requirements. In addition, to maximize the range per charge, vehicle power consumption must be managed both when the vehicle is in motion and when parked. ADI's latest BMS products not only support a variety of cell configurations, but also have innovative low-power features that enable continuous monitoring of the battery even when the vehicle is powered off to ensure safety under a variety of conditions while maximizing the vehicle's range.
“Our collaboration with ADI enables us to continuously improve the range of electric vehicles to meet increasingly stringent regulations and the growing needs of today’s electric vehicle owners,” said Zhu Jun, deputy chief engineer of SAIC and general manager of Jieneng. “The new range of BMS solutions enables us to continue to promote the adoption of electric vehicles among mass market consumers while advancing our commitment to safety.”
As electric vehicles become mainstream, the demand for BMS is growing. Achieving ASIL-D certification means that new BMS solutions can meet the highest standards for functional safety of road vehicles set by global regulators.
“Our customers have recognized ADI as a leader in BMS performance, especially as they face the challenge of scaling their electric vehicle platforms and meeting new market demands,” said Patrick Morgan, vice president of the Automotive Business Unit at Analog Devices. “Our latest BMS products not only provide new capabilities such as continuous battery monitoring, but also enable battery recycling and reuse in energy storage systems to support a circular economy.”
Key Features and Benefits
Optimized for modules with 6 to 18 cells, ADI’s BMS products offer a range of features including low power continuous battery monitoring, advanced functional safety, and ultra-high accuracy at global scale over the entire vehicle lifecycle and device temperature range.
