When you look at a classic case, don’t just be impressed by its beauty. Learn to look deeper to learn more.

You must have seen this picture, which was widely circulated on Weibo. This special effect street lamp has attracted the attention of many friends. This case was also shared at the last Guangzhou Thought Salon. Let's analyze this lamp from a technical perspective.

First, let me share my process of searching for information: I searched for this image using Google’s “image search” function and found that the case’s name is BROKEN LIGHT, and its location is Katendrecht Atjehstraat, ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS. Lighting designer: Rudolf Teunissen & Marinus van der Voorden

Google the designer’s name and find the design company’s website. Continue digging and find out that the lamp was designed by MAX DESIGNERS. Use Google again to find the MAX company’s website and find the structural diagram of the lamp on their website.

Some students who did not look at the picture carefully made a "burst" sound at the first moment: "The road is illuminated in patches, how can we drive?" Oh no ~ please look carefully, the road is evenly illuminated!

Take a closer look at the light poles. Each light pole has two lamp heads. The light that shines on the roadway should be a normal street light. I found this information on the website: ROADLIGHT CALCULATION: RONALD VREDENBORG, MODERNISTA. They even hired a specialist to calculate it. To be honest, it is a bit difficult. It takes a lot of effort to evenly illuminate the road with a 6-meter-high light pole!

Of course, what attracts us is definitely not the evenly illuminated street lamp, but the special effect lights on the sidewalk.

Combining the previous structure diagram with this schematic diagram, we can roughly understand its principle:

Please note this lovely design: the adjustable grille blocks the light from the window, so that the light only shines on the pillars between the windows! It will not cause light pollution to residents along the street~

It can be seen that the workers who installed and debugged the lights worked very hard. Each light had to be carefully adjusted to achieve the effect required by the designer. I found out on the website that the installation company was Citytec. I salute them!
