At present, LED products have gradually conquered the market by relying on the "low energy consumption" selling point that meets global environmental protection requirements. However, as for long life, many people do have doubts.
When I was chatting with an LED manufacturer a few days ago, he said: "The damage of LED products mainly occurs in the power supply. In fact, there is no big problem with the chip, but light decay is inevitable." At present, LEDs are generally stated to be able to be used for more than 50,000 hours, and some manufacturers claim that their LEDs can operate for about 100,000 hours. However, the shelf life of most LED products on the market is less than 1 year. If they are fully used within the specified time, then they can only last for more than 8,000 hours, which is less than one-fifth of the standard service life. Perhaps the life of LED products is indeed longer than that of traditional lamps, but there seems to be no clear answer to how long it is.
The rated life of LEDs cannot be calculated using the same measurement methods as traditional lamps. When testing the life of an LED, no one will stay by and wait for it to stop working. So the legendary 50,000 hours is just an experimental estimate of LED products. The reason why LEDs last is that they do not have the problem of filament melting. Although LEDs will not stop working directly, they will gradually degrade over time. It is predicted that high-quality LEDs can maintain more than 60% of the initial light brightness after 50,000 hours of continuous operation. Assuming that the LED has reached its rated life, it may still be glowing, but the light is very weak. To extend the life of LEDs, it is necessary to reduce or completely dissipate the heat generated by the LED chip . Heat is the main reason why LEDs stop working. The life of LEDs is a theoretical absolute environment. In actual use, due to too many external influences, the life can only be estimated by simulating deterioration conditions. There are many uncontrollable reasons for the environment of LEDs in actual application, such as the stability of the driving current, the impact of instantaneous current, the environment and the heat dissipation materials used, which greatly reduce the life of LEDs.
Taking all factors into consideration, what is the approximate discount rate for the life of LED products? What kind of promises should merchants give to consumers? Double 11 has just passed, and all kinds of products are competing for discounts and promotions. When discounts and price cuts are used to compete for sales, is the life of LED products also discounted?
