Power Integrations, a leader in high-voltage integrated circuits for energy-efficient power conversion, recently announced the launch of the TOPSwitch-JX series of devices. The new product series consists of 16 highly integrated power conversion ICs, all of which have a 725 V power MOSFET integrated inside, suitable for designing flyback power supplies. The new TOPSwitch-JX devices use a multi-mode control algorithm to improve power efficiency over the entire load range. Due to the high efficiency at full power, power consumption during normal operation can be reduced, while reducing the complexity and cost of system thermal management. At low input power levels, high efficiency can also minimize the no-load power consumption of the adapter and increase the power supply to the system in standby mode, which is particularly suitable for product applications subject to energy efficiency standards and regulations.
Due to the new multi-cycle modulation mode, the power supply has excellent light-load efficiency and low power consumption under no-load conditions, which can reduce the average switching frequency and reduce output ripple and audio noise. Therefore, the designed power supply can not only easily meet the latest energy efficiency regulations including ENERGY STAR® and the EU Commission's Energy-Using Products Ecodesign Directive, but also maintain a stable output voltage. Using TOPSwitch-JX, it is easy to achieve standby power consumption of less than 100 mW at 264 VAC (for a 20 mW load).
Comments David New, product marketing manager at Power Integrations: “In our latest generation of TOPSwitch devices, we have not only improved light-load efficiency but also raised the breakdown voltage to 725 V. This enhances system reliability and enables operation with high reflected voltages, which helps reduce the cost of the secondary diode in many designs. The new ICs also integrate a fast AC reset circuit, which significantly reduces the number of primary-side components required.”
TOPSwitch-JX is available in the latest ultra-thin eDIPä package, which provides excellent thermal performance in thin applications such as LCD monitors, TVs and netbook/notebook adapters. The device is also suitable for printers, PC and TV standby, set-top boxes and other consumer audio/video equipment, which can reach up to 177W of output power over a universal input voltage range.
The TOPSwitch-JX product family is available now, with prices ranging from $0.78 to $1.69 for 10,000-unit quantities. In addition to the thermally efficient eDIP package, the device is also available in PI's widely used eSIP®-7C package, which is an alternative to the traditional TO-220 package for mounting heat sinks. The new device's comprehensive safety features include overtemperature, overcurrent, overpower, input overvoltage, input undervoltage, and user-selectable latching/non-latching output overvoltage protection, as well as a fast AC reset function.
Product data sheets, reference designs and introductory videos are available on the Power Integrations website at www.powerint.cn/zh-hans/topswitch-jx. In addition, Power Integrations' online learning center, PI Universityä (www.powerint.cn/pi-university), offers detailed technical videos on how to design power supplies using the new TOPSwitch-JX devices.
