It is really possible to take the subway by scanning your face!

On April 1, Jinan Metro Line 1 started commercial operation. This is not only the first subway line in Jinan, but also the first subway line in China to use 3D facial recognition gates.

This 3D facial recognition turnstile is equipped with Obbec's 3D sensing technology, which verifies the identity of passengers through 3D facial recognition. Passengers only need to scan their faces to enter and exit the subway station.

Set up a facial recognition channel, passengers can enter and exit the station directly by scanning their faces

After entering their facial information on the Jinan Metro App, passengers only need to face the 3D facial recognition device when entering the station, and they can pass through the gate quickly and seamlessly within 2 seconds. In order to facilitate passengers to travel by face scanning, Jinan Metro Line 1 has also opened a facial recognition channel. On the first day of its launch, many citizens tried it out.

The 3D facial recognition gate is equipped with an Orbbec 3D camera, which can project 18,000 scattered spots to obtain complete three-dimensional facial data. When passengers pass through the facial recognition channel, the 3D camera will collect 3D facial features and compare them with the facial information entered into the system. Passengers will be allowed to pass after verification. In terms of security, the 3D facial recognition gate on Line 1 has liveness detection capabilities and can easily identify disguised attacks such as photos, videos and masks, with a false recognition rate of only one in a million.

3D facial recognition enables smart transportation, and face becomes the new identity ID

In public transportation with huge passenger flow and complex environment, 3D facial recognition technology can greatly improve personal identity authentication and traffic operation efficiency.

3D facial recognition technology first alleviates the problem of queuing for ticket purchase. Most domestic subway stations have problems such as long queues for self-service ticket purchase and complicated ticket purchase procedures. Now passengers only need to enter their facial information to scan their faces to enter the station.

Secondly, compared with swiping cards or scanning codes to enter the station, 3D face recognition is faster and more convenient. It eliminates the need for intermediate media such as mobile phones and cards, and allows for quick and seamless entry and exit.

According to staff from the Jinan Rail Transit Group, the 3D facial recognition turnstiles on Line 1 can allow 30-40 passengers to pass through per minute, greatly improving the efficiency of subway operations.

Promote the implementation of 3D face recognition technology and expand "smart" application scenarios

Nowadays, 3D face recognition technology has gradually been applied to all aspects of people’s lives, and faces are becoming a new identity ID.

As a leading domestic AI 3D sensing company, Orbbec has currently enabled 3D face recognition technology in the fields of smartphones, face payment, 3D scanning, smart home, etc. The first commercial use of 3D face recognition technology in domestic subways marks that my country's subway transportation is about to enter the 3D face recognition era, and passengers will enjoy a faster and more convenient riding experience.

In the future, Orbbec will work closely with manufacturers in various fields to further promote the commercialization of 3D face recognition technology in subways in other cities. At the same time, Orbbec will accelerate the creation of an AI 3D sensing technology platform and continue to expand "smart" application scenarios.
