RedCap (lightweight 5G terminal) is one of the important features of 3GPP Rel.17 . RedCap reduces equipment cost and power consumption by cutting bandwidth, number of antennas, modulation order, etc., so as to adapt to scenarios with lower rate requirements than eMBB terminals but higher than NB-IoT/eMTC, such as wearable devices, surveillance cameras and industrial wireless sensors.


RedCap technology provides more options for the Internet of Things, especially the Industrial Internet of Things. In the past six months, RedCap's technical trials in China have been accelerated. China's three major operators and industry partners have vigorously carried out RedCap verification in scenarios such as mining, electricity, steel, and Internet of Vehicles, and achieved verification results that meet expectations.


Recently, at the Rohde & Schwarz 5G terminal equipment testing technology seminar, Rohde & Schwarz and ASR Technologies jointly completed RedCap RF testing and throughput testing, using the latest R&S CMX500 OBT (One Box Tester) and ASR RedCap terminal chip platform.


Based on R&S CMsquares test software and CMX500 OBT Lite, a lightweight test platform for 5G NR signaling for Redcap, Rohde & Schwarz can easily complete the verification of RedCap terminal RF characteristics and throughput. In addition, users can also conduct RedCap functional tests, end-to-end application tests such as IP layer throughput and VoNR and protocol signaling tests based on this platform.
