It depends on whether you are measuring leakage between wires or between wires and the earth. Set the pointer to 10k, turn off all the switches on the line, unplug all electrical appliances from the sockets, and disconnect them all. Make sure that the circuit After there is no path and the power is out, measure the resistance of the two wires and see if the hands of the meter move. The method of measuring wires is similar to that of the earth, except that the meter rod must be well grounded.

Use the on-off setting of the multimeter to measure the ground and measured circuit parts. If the meter shows resistance, it means there is no insulation. But in fact, if you want to measure leakage, you should use a meter. Because the voltage at both ends of the test leads is very low when the multimeter is measuring, generally no more than 9V, it cannot break down the gap and leak electricity. The megohmmeter can reach more than 1000v. Insert the multimeter connector into the connecting post corresponding to the AC power measurement, then use one pen to test the neutral or ground wire, and the other pen to test the place where you suspect leakage. Look at the multimeter indicator. If it is 0, it means there is no leakage here. No voltage! If the voltage reading is 220 or other than 36V, it means there is leakage, which means it is unsafe! Use the 200m resistance range of a multimeter to measure the insulation resistance. First determine which wire is leaking or which two wires are short-circuited. The method is as follows: measure the insulation resistance of the live wire and the neutral wire, measure the insulation resistance of the live wire to the ground wire, and measure the insulation resistance of the neutral wire to the ground wire. If there is a short circuit the insulation resistance is basically zero. I know which wire is leaking, and I'm using the segmented search method to gradually narrow down the scope of the fault. Or use the elimination method to separate the lines and conduct energization tests section by section.
