You may still remember that when we were studying physics, in the chapter about learning current and voltage, there was an instrument that could measure voltage, resistance and current. This instrument is not only the knowledge we are learning, but also is used in some factories or repairs in our lives. Let’s talk about this instrument today.
A multimeter is also called a multiplex meter, a complex meter or a multimeter, etc. It is an indispensable and important instrument for measuring electricity. A multimeter is also called a three-purpose meter. The three-purpose meter is mainly used to measure voltage, current and resistance. It is a good measuring instrument in terms of function and range. There are two main types of multimeters: pointer multimeters and digital multimeters. Analogue multimeters are mainly based on the meter head and read the measured value through the meter needle, while the measured value after measurement is displayed in numbers on the screen, mostly digital multimeters.
A multimeter mainly has three components, namely the meter head, the measurement circuit and the transfer switch. It is the most basic power measurement tool in terms of power measurement, so it is also a widely used power measurement instrument.
Multimeters are widely used in practical applications, but we must master the use of multimeters proficiently.
1. We must first understand the meaning of each symbol and knob on the multimeter dial, as well as the function of its selector switch. For example, mv of a multimeter means AC and DC millivolt voltage, while v~ means AC voltage and v- means DC voltage and other representative symbols.
2. We need to adjust the measuring multimeter to the mechanical zero setting state.
3. Then we need to observe the relevant type and size of the object being measured, and then select the conversion switch and appropriate range on the multimeter.
4. After selecting the measuring range, we need to find the scale mark that corresponds to the measurement and find the correct test lead socket location.
5. When measuring voltage, be careful not to connect the test leads of the multimeter backwards, otherwise it will easily bend the pointer in the meter, because the reverse connection will cause the meter needle to deflect in the opposite direction.
6. When measuring current, be sure to switch the switch to the DC current range and adjust it to the appropriate range.
After using the multimeter, we must remember to adjust the switch to the maximum AC voltage level. At the same time, if our multimeter is not used for a long time, in order to prevent the battery inside from corroding the accessories inside the meter, it is best to remove the battery inside and outside the meter.
