A new automated approach to app testing that quickly measures the quality of experience provided by the world’s most popular mobile apps

Keysight Technologies recently announced enhancements to its Nemo device application test suite. The software solution uses automation and artificial intelligence (AI) to empower wireless service providers and application developers to quickly evaluate real interactions between smartphone users and native applications on their phones. Keysight provides advanced design and verification solutions designed to accelerate innovation and create a secure and connected world.

The use of mobile applications to access digital content, engage with social media platforms and play online games has grown significantly worldwide over the past few years. This growth has been driven significantly by the use of native mobile apps, which offer a superior, tailored experience compared to mobile web browsers.

"Service providers and mobile application developers want to understand the real-world experience of end users accessing OTT applications using smartphones connected to cellular networks, and need a reliable way to validate this," said Matti Passoja, head of Nemo wireless solutions at Keysight Technologies . "Keysight's unique hardware and software technology platform has created an automated approach to application testing that uses real-world applications to provide accurate insights into network performance, even in the most complex and changing scenarios."

Keysight Technologies has created a new approach to device test applications by leveraging AI, machine learning (ML), and automation technologies, and using data captured from native mobile applications rather than simulated data traffic. This approach more accurately measures how end users interact with their mobile applications. The new automated approach to application testing can help wireless service providers quickly optimize 5G network performance while providing smartphone users with better quality of experience (QoE). Users can enjoy the world's most widely used OTT services and social media applications, such as Facebook Messenger, Microsoft Teams, Snapchat, TikTok, and Zoom.

The new automated test application method is one of three complementary test methods available in Keysight's Nemo device application test suite. Depending on the type of mobile application and key performance indicators (KPIs), the test method can be used in conjunction with a Nemo field test solution. Nemo test suite users can obtain comprehensive, realistic and flexible 5G network performance verification and end-user QoE evaluation.

Keysight's Nemo test tools capture real-world measurements in the field for real-time or post-processing analysis. These test tools include the Nemo Outdoor 5G NR Drive Test Solution, the Nemo Backpack Pro 5G Indoor Benchmark Test Solution, and the Nemo Network Benchmark Test Solution.
