Vector network analyzer is a test equipment for electromagnetic wave energy, suitable for testing various parameter amplitudes and phases of ports. E5063A is a vector network analyzer of Keysight Technology with a test frequency of up to 18GHz. This dual-port ENA vector network analyzer has a built-in signal generator that can perform frequency scanning on a frequency band. By adding the excitation signal to the dual ports and measuring the amplitude and phase of the reflected signal, the impedance or reflection situation can be determined. At the same time, the transmission parameters can be measured, and the Smith parameters can be used to adjust the matching network.

Use E5063A to test 2.4G wireless network. After connecting SMA coaxial cable to the instrument, the display is as follows:

I changed some component values and retested, but found no changes. I changed again, but the test curve was still displayed. This is obviously a problem. The curve is still there without connecting the device under test, but there is no mark point. I suspect that the Display menu setting is wrong. If Mem is displayed, the previous test data will be displayed. I checked the Display menu, and the option is Data instead of Mem. This is not a problem.

Then I checked the Trigger menu and found that there are several modes, including Hold, Single and Continuous, and I found that it is in Hold mode at this time.

Finally, the reason was found. Hold is the hold mode. The screen will display the test data of the last excitation source. Once the test is done, the data will be retained on the display. Even if you remove the DUT, the instrument will still display the test chart just now. Continuous is the continuous mode. It is the result of the continuous scan signal test and displays the actual test chart. Once you remove the DUT, the test chart disappears from the display.

The reason why the chart cannot be displayed correctly is that the Trigger mode is selected incorrectly during the test. Usually our test mode should be selected as Continuous. At this point, the display problem is solved.
