I believe that many netizens don’t know much about the inductors of motherboards, so let me give you some basic information.
An inductor is a reactance device that is often used in electronic circuits. The principle is to wind a wire around an iron core or a magnetic core, or an air-core coil is an inductor. There are also one-piece molded inductors that are made by burying the coil in powder and die-casting.
So how do you identify the quality of an inductor?
(I) Motherboard inductor detection method - use a digital multimeter to detect.
Set the digital multimeter to the diode position (buzzer position), place the test leads on the two pins, and look at the multimeter reading. For chip inductors, the reading at this time should be zero. If the multimeter reading is too large or infinite, it means that the inductor is damaged.
For coils with more turns and thinner wire diameters, the reading will reach dozens to hundreds. Normally, the DC resistance of the coil is only a few ohms.
If the inductor is damaged, it is often manifested as heat or obvious damage to the inductor magnetic ring. If the inductor coil is not seriously damaged and cannot be determined, its inductance can be measured or replaced to determine.
(II) Method for testing the motherboard inductor - testing with a pointer multimeter
. The resistance method is often used to test the quality of inductors under amateur conditions. Generally speaking, the number of turns of the inductor coil is small and the DC resistance is very low, so it is very practical to use the resistance block of the multimeter to check. The method is as follows:
Step 1 Turn the multimeter to the R x10 block of the ohm block, and then adjust the multimeter to zero.
Step 2 Place the red and black test leads of the multimeter on the pins at both ends of the inductor. At this time, the current Fa value of the inductor will be measured. Under normal circumstances, the inductor should be able to measure a fixed resistance value.
If the resistance of the inductor approaches 0, it indicates that there is a short circuit fault inside the inductor; if the resistance of the inductor under test approaches infinity, select the maximum range to continue testing. If the resistance still approaches infinity, it indicates that the inductor under test is damaged.
