The steps to use a pointer multimeter to determine whether a capacitor is good or bad are as follows:
Step 1: First, according to the size of the capacitor capacity, turn the multimeter's gear knob to the appropriate "Ω" gear. Generally, capacitors with a capacity below 1 μF should be tested with the "R×10K" gear, capacitors within 1 to 100 μF should be tested with the "R×1K" gear, and capacitors with a capacity greater than 100 μF should be tested with the "R×100" gear.
Step 2: Then use the two test leads of the multimeter to connect the two leads of the capacitor respectively. At the moment of contact, the needle should deflect to the right and then slowly return to the left.
Step 3: Swap the two probes of the multimeter and measure again. The needle should repeat the above process. Generally, the larger the capacitor capacity, the more the needle deflects to the right and the slower it returns to the left. If the needle of the multimeter does not move, it means that the capacitor is broken. If the needle deflects to the right and does not return to the left, it means that the capacitor is short-circuited.
If the needle deflects to the right and then returns to the left to stabilize, and the resistance indicated is less than 500KΩ, it means that the insulation resistance of the capacitor is too small, the leakage current is large, and it is not suitable for use.
