V-cone flowmeter is a commonly used flow measuring instrument, mainly used for measuring liquids, steam, gases, etc. It is rapidly promoted in the measurement of steam, coal gas, natural gas, hot and cold water, oil, air, acetylene, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide two-phase flow and other media in thermal, thermal power, metallurgy and petrochemical industries.

Working principle of V-cone flowmeter

The V-cone flowmeter (orifice flowmeter) performs central throttling by hanging a special streamlined cone on the center line of a closed pipeline, and uses the differential pressure measured at the upstream of the pipeline and the tail of the cone to calculate the flow in the pipeline. Its principle is based on the Bernoulli law of energy conversion in a closed pipeline, that is, for a stable fluid, the flow rate of the fluid in the pipeline is proportional to the square root of the differential pressure. When the fluid passes through the cone throttling area, the flow rate will increase, and the pressure at the downstream tail of the cone will decrease, resulting in a differential pressure. Its working principle is somewhat similar to that of a magnetic flap level gauge (glass tank level gauge). It uses the continuity equation of the fluid and the Bernoulli equation to derive the mathematical relationship between the measured flow rate and the output differential pressure value. The continuity equation is a mathematical expression of the law of conservation of energy applied to a moving fluid.

The V cone is a differential pressure generating device for measuring flow. It can measure the flow of various fluids in the pipeline with various differential pressure gauges or differential pressure transmitters. The throttling device of the orifice flowmeter includes an annular chamber orifice plate, nozzle, etc. The throttling device of the orifice flowmeter is used in conjunction with a differential pressure transmitter to measure the flow of liquids, steam, and gases. The orifice flowmeter is widely used in petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, electric power, light industry and other departments.

When the fluid that fills the pipeline flows through the throttling device in the pipeline, the flow beam will form a local contraction at the throttling device, thereby increasing the flow rate and reducing the static pressure. Therefore, a pressure drop, that is, a pressure difference, is generated before and after the throttling device. The greater the flow rate of the medium, the greater the pressure difference generated before and after the throttling device. Therefore, the orifice flowmeter can measure the size of the fluid flow by measuring the pressure difference. This measurement method is based on the law of energy conservation and the law of flow continuity.
