ams OSRAM and Transmax jointly release a demonstration solution to achieve ultra-high security level face authentication under OLED screen
• Release joint demonstration of complete smartphone integration solutions, including OLED under-screen solutions;
• The solution includes a combination of a concealed ams-OSRAM dot projection/flood illuminator combination and Transmax’s algorithms;
• Certified for mobile payments according to IIFAA, Android™ and FIDO standards;
• ams OSRAM light sources feature customizable spot/flood lighting capabilities, enabling maximum speed and performance when operating under OLED screens.
Shanghai, China, June 28, 2022 – ams Osram, a leading global supplier of optical solutions, and trinamiX GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of BASF Europe and a pioneer in new biometric technologies, have jointly developed a demonstration system that enables face authentication behind an OLED screen with the ultra-high security required for mobile payments. The demonstration device will be exhibited for the first time at Sensors Converge 2022 in San Jose, USA from June 27 to 29 .
ams Osram and Transmax have joined forces to offer smartphone manufacturers a highly secure and convenient user authentication system, which will be available later this year. The core of the solution is Transmax's certified face verification software and ams Osram's dedicated projector. Based on this innovative combination, the solution is able to operate under the smartphone display while allowing for a small technology package size and cost-effective integration.

Safe and convenient, providing a groundbreaking solution for user identity verification
Recently, trinamiX Face Authentication has proven to be reliable against high-level fraud attacks through a new liveness check based on skin detection. The solution is certified to meet the world-leading Android™ Biometric Class 3, IIFAA biometric face security test requirements and FIDO Alliance.
“The Transmax solution has been thoroughly tested against spoofing attempts. Even if the attacker uses an extremely realistic mask, the spoofing is detected and access is reliably denied,” said Matthias Gloor, Senior Product Manager at ams OSRAM. “We are offering phone manufacturers a solution that meets the current highest security requirements for mobile payments and is easy to integrate into their devices.”
The company's first demonstration system utilizes amsOSRAM's infrared dot projector and flood illuminator, combined with Transmax's unique hardware and software modules, and integrated under the OLED screen. Together, these two components achieve highly secure and convenient performance. Stefan Metz, Head of Transmax's Smartphone Business in Asia, said: "amsOSRAM's optimized projector is a perfect match for our solution. Our unique combination of hardware and algorithms can quickly generate reliable face verification results, providing an extremely smooth experience for smartphone users. We are very happy to finally introduce this next-generation solution to our customers."
The demonstration system debuted at the Sensors Conference in San Jose, USA, June 27-29 .
