Third-party research organization Canalys released a report stating that as two sub-markets in the consumer Internet of Things field, personal smart audio and wearable wristband devices have withstood the severe test of 2020 and reached new heights.
Canalys said that in 2020, shipments of personal smart audio devices increased by 20% to 432 million units, while shipments of wearable wristband devices increased by 10% to 185 million units.
As countries gradually win the long battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, people pay more attention to health and outdoor activities, and these two market segments continue to be the two strategic winners. Driven by strong consumer demand and strategic shifts in the supplier ecosystem, TWS headphones (true wireless) and wearable watches (including basic watches and smart watches) stand out as the two dominant categories, accounting for more than half of shipments in their respective market segments.
It is worth mentioning that Canalys is quite optimistic about the development prospects of personal smart audio and wearable wristband devices in 2021. The report said that considering the constraints on the supply chain due to component shortages, Canalys adjusted the market forecast for personal smart audio and wearable wristband devices in 2021. It is now expected that personal smart audio shipments will increase by 15.6% to 500 million units, and wearable wristband device shipments are expected to increase by 10.2% to 204 million units.
