On the afternoon of May 13, Xiaomi released its second Wi-Fi 6 router, the "Xiaomi Router AX1800", which is officially launched at a price of 329 yuan and a pre-sale price of 299 yuan. Compared with its predecessor, the Xiaomi AIoT Router AX3600, this product has a lower price threshold and is Xiaomi's popular Wi-Fi 6 product.
The new router has changed the horizontal design of the AX3600 with exposed antennas and adopted a "cool black cube" vertical design. The hidden dual-band high-performance antenna is said to achieve 360-degree signal coverage; the tower-style heat dissipation structure with an oversized metal heat sink can also maintain stable operation.
In terms of hardware configuration, the Xiaomi Router AX1800 uses Qualcomm's enterprise-level 5-core chip - Qualcomm IPQ6000. The enterprise-level chip is used in home routers, with powerful performance to ensure network stability at all times. Quad-core 64-bit A53 1.2GHz CPU + single-core 1.5 GHz NPU, with a computing power of 11040DMIPS. In addition, there are 4 independent signal amplifiers, 256MB of memory, theoretically supporting 128 devices connected at the same time, and Xiaomi smart devices can access the network with one click without password. At the same time, it also supports OFDMA technology. In addition, Xiaomi said that multiple Mesh networks and Tencent online game accelerators will be upgraded and supported before June 30, and three months of membership will be given for free.
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) is a new generation of Wi-Fi standard, which has greatly improved the transmission rate, signal coverage and data delay compared with the previous generation Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac). Especially in the scenario where multiple devices are connected at the same time, Wi-Fi 6 routers can reduce data delay and jamming.
Currently, flagship phones are beginning to popularize the Wi-Fi 6 standard. The Xiaomi Mi AX1800 router can be used with Wi-Fi 6 phones running the Snapdragon 865 platform, such as the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Samsung S20, or the Apple iPhone 11 series. Of course, it is also backward compatible with WiFi 5 devices. Compared with the current mainstream home Wi-Fi 5 AC1200 router, its theoretical wireless rate can be increased by up to 52%.
According to official data, in order to ensure wider and more stable signal coverage, the Xiaomi Router AX1800 also uses four Qovro high-performance independent signal amplifiers. Compared with the integrated amplifier, the signal strength of the independent amplifier is increased by 4dB, and the theoretical coverage range is increased by 50%.
Xiaomi Router AX1800 also supports OFDMA, MU-MIMO and other technologies and multiple Mesh networking (upgrade support before June 30). OFDMA technology allows the router to send data to up to 8 devices in one transmission, reducing network latency by 66%; MU-MIMO makes Internet access smoother for multiple people; multiple Mesh networking (upgrade support before June 30) can say goodbye to the situation where a single router has a dead spot.
As the second product of Xiaomi WiFi6 router, Xiaomi Router AX1800 has a lower price threshold and is suitable for non-enthusiast users. This model will start deposit pre-sale at 10:00 am on May 15th in Xiaomi Mall and other channels, with a pre-sale price of 299 yuan. It will be officially sold on May 20th in Xiaomi Mall, Xiaomi Youpin, JD.com, Tmall, Suning and other channels, with an official retail price of 329 yuan.
