Cypress Semiconductor Corp. today announced a new shortcut for IoT developers to create high-quality, secure, and reliable IoT products. The solution, called IoT-AdvantEdge™, includes connectivity chips, microcontrollers (MCUs), software, development tools and support, and collaboration with ecosystem partners. Its goal is to reduce the complexity of development by solving a series of key IoT device design issues. With IoT-AdvantEdge, companies can overcome challenges in wireless connectivity, hardware device and cloud security, power consumption, device management and maintenance, high integration, ease of use, human-machine interface, and profitability, and quickly bring reliable, secure, and high-quality products to market.
The solution will provide developers with a trusted development path for edge devices, together with Cypress's microcontrollers (MCUs), wireless connectivity chips, system software, development tools and ecosystem partners, making the development of IoT products easier, more cost-effective and with the lowest risk.
“Building smart, connected IoT edge computing products is challenging. Getting wireless connectivity and embedded systems to work together while also addressing system security, cloud integration, and energy efficiency management can be time-consuming and costly,” said Hassane El-Khoury, president and CEO of Cypress. “Cypress is committed to solving these challenges head-on and we will continue to grow our solutions to help companies get high-quality, secure, and reliable products to market faster. IoT-AdvantEdge simplifies product development by bringing together powerful IoT hardware and software building blocks.”
Cypress' IoT-AdvantEdge solutions include:
Chip: Cypress has a unique combination of microcontrollers (MCU), Wi-Fi, Classic Bluetooth (Classic Bluetooth)/Low Power Bluetooth (BLE), which can work together to support the needs of various IoT devices from battery-powered cameras to medical products. In addition, they also integrate software and hardware security and powerful communication technologies, and are used in many of the most sophisticated IoT products.
Software: Powerful software is the foundation for building high-quality, secure, and reliable products. Cypress's software is built specifically for the Internet of Things. The ModusToolbox® development tool chain, combined with RTOS microcontrollers (MCUs) such as PSoC®, greatly simplifies the development of IoT products such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (BT/BLE). ModusToolbox's middleware can help companies connect their products to leading cloud software platforms or proprietary cloud services on public/private cloud infrastructures. In addition, Cypress's contribution to the open source Linux kernel is also an important reason why our Wi-Fi and Bluetooth products are widely used by IoT developers.
Collaboration with ecosystem partners: Creating IoT products usually requires collaboration with a broad supply chain ecosystem. Cypress has pre-integrated services from many ecosystem partners, including cloud service providers, semiconductor products for specific purposes, and application developers, to help companies bring their IoT products to market faster.
As part of the IoT-AdvantEdge launch, Cypress also introduced a number of new IoT products and resources, including:
New microcontrollers (MCUs): Cypress has added two new configurations to its PSoC 6 MCU family, providing new memory options for the PSoC 62 MCU and PSoC 64 Secure MCU product lines. One has a high-performance, M4F/M0 dual-core architecture, 2MB Flash and 1MB SRAM; the other is more cost-effective, with 512KB Flash and 256KB SRAM. The two new configurations give companies more flexibility to choose the right configuration for IoT applications.
New development kits: New development kits include a variety of low-power solutions to help designers solve complex connectivity, secure deployment, secure firmware management and cloud security issues. These integrated solutions are supported by ModusToolbox software and have been verified by AWS IoT Core and Pelion™ cloud applications to simplify the development of home automation and portable consumer devices.
PSoC 62 2M 43012 Pioneer Kit: Ultra-low-power M4/M0+ MCU with dual-band 2.4G/5G IEEE 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® 5.0.
PSoC 62 512K 4343W Prototyping Kit: Cost-effective human-machine interaction MCU with IEEE 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 support
PSoC 64 2M Secure Boot 4343W Pioneer Kit: Secure cloud connection and provisioning, secure firmware management
Cypress-Azurewave Module Pioneer Kit: Wireless-certified modules provide a turnkey connected MCU platform solution that can be easily integrated into any IoT product
New software: ModusToolbox integrates Cypress's expertise in secure computing and connectivity into a common software tool, making it easier for IoT developers to bring successful products to market and provide support throughout the life cycle. This time, Cypress released ModusToolbox 2.1, which will expand cloud service support beyond AWS IoT Core and Pelion services to cover customers who have built their own cloud backends. Today, ModusToolbox supports five commonly used IDEs, and developers can choose their preferred development environment.
New online resources: Cypress launched IoT-AdvantEdge on Cypress.com and set up a dedicated IoT developer zone for the developer community. The Cypress developer community provides professional technical forums, technical blogs and resource libraries for visitors around the world. The Cypress developer community is also committed to building a bridge of communication for customers, developers and partners, making it easier for everyone to access massive resources, and ultimately bringing high-quality, secure and reliable products to market faster.
“In the future, IoT will be ubiquitous, and we are working hard to make this a reality, with Cypress technology in every IoT device,” said Hassane El-Khoury. “The release of the IoT-AdvantEdge solution reflects our commitment and pursuit of this goal.”
