VR is a key area of the new generation of information and communication technology. It has the characteristics of great industrial potential, large technological span and wide application space. It has been included in many major national documents such as the "13th Five-Year Plan" informationization plan and Internet+. The "Honggutan New District•Qualcomm China•Shadow Innovation Joint Innovation Center" aims to integrate the advantageous resources of all parties and broaden the R&D and independent innovation capabilities of local enterprises in Nanchang, thereby promoting the vigorous development of wireless helmets, VR/AR glasses and the Internet of Things industry. The joint innovation center consists of an exhibition center and an innovation laboratory. Among them, the exhibition center will display terminal products and application cases supported by Qualcomm technology, help Nanchang's mass entrepreneurship and innovation enterprises understand the latest global technologies, industry trends, application scenarios and cases, and broaden the development ideas of mass entrepreneurship and innovation enterprises.
The Innovation Lab will be equipped with advanced testing equipment and will provide technical evaluation, initial R&D guidance and experimental testing for qualified mass entrepreneurship and innovation enterprises based on Qualcomm's world-leading wireless technology. Mass entrepreneurship and innovation enterprises can use the Innovation Lab to learn about Qualcomm's technology and improve their R&D and independent innovation capabilities, thereby accelerating and improving their progress in related industry applications such as VR/AR terminals and the Internet of Things. In addition, the Joint Innovation Center will hold technical lectures and VR/AR industry-related training and seminars from time to time.
Deng Yuefeng, member of the Working Committee of the Nanchang Honggutan New District Management Committee, said: "The VR industry is known as the 'next hot spot' of the information industry. Nanchang has seized the opportunity and not only launched the world's first urban VR industry plan, but also focused on building 'four centers' and 'four platforms' to help Jiangxi's economy 'change lanes and overtake'. We are very excited about the cooperation with Qualcomm and Yingchuang Technology. In the future, the Joint Innovation Center will take the development of the VR industry as an opportunity to further promote the technological innovation of Nanchang's mass entrepreneurship and innovation enterprises and help Nanchang seize the window of opportunity brought about by the major scientific and technological revolution."
“With the commercialization of 5G, all industries will usher in a new innovation cycle, including the XR (including VR/AR) industry, in which Qualcomm has very deep technical accumulation,” said Mingjuan Hou, vice president of marketing at Qualcomm. “This signing is one of Qualcomm’s important initiatives to deepen its presence in China. Through the joint efforts of the Nanchang Honggutan New District Management Committee and Yingchuang Technology, the Joint Innovation Center will promote technological innovation and development in the domestic XR industry and promote the development of Nanchang’s high-tech industry.”
Sun Li, chairman of Yingchuang Technology, said: “Qualcomm has always been an important strategic partner of Yingchuang Technology. The establishment of this joint innovation center will help promote the further development of the XR industry ecosystem. Yingchuang Technology will continue to promote cooperation with Qualcomm, actively deploy industries such as artificial intelligence, mixed reality, and quantum computing, use new technologies as new driving force to build a new economy, and help Jiangxi Province’s social and economic development reach a new level.”
At present, the commercial use of 5G and the increasing maturity of the industrial chain have also brought new opportunities for the development of XR. The high speed, low latency and high reliability supported by 5G technology will greatly promote the popularization and prosperity of XR. In the future, XR will work with 5G to drive innovation and bring economic benefits with the help of consumer and industrial terminals. It will also transform a wide range of industries and fields such as education, industrial manufacturing, and retail, and stimulate a new round of innovation cycles.
