Xilinx Launches Industry's Most Flexible and Comprehensive Ethernet Portfolio

Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ:XLNX), a global leader in fully programmable technology and devices, today announced the industry's most flexible and comprehensive Ethernet product line for data center interconnect, service provider and enterprise applications. Xilinx's complete IP product line includes 25GBASE-CR/KR, 50GBASE-CR2/KR2, 100GBASE-CR4/KR4 IP, and the newly launched integrated 100G Ethernet MAC and RS-FEC IP. As the latest member of the product line, Xilinx's integrated 100G Ethernet MAC and RS-FEC IP are built into 16nm UltraScale+™ devices, which can reduce device power consumption by 80% and significantly reduce the number of logic compared to FPGA soft IP cores.

The increasing demand for mobile traffic and cloud computing has forced data center optical links to upgrade to 100G Ethernet, which in turn affects the existing 10G Ethernet port downlink links. Upgrading 10G Ethernet ports to 25G Ethernet can improve performance by 2.5 times. Xilinx's integrated 100G Ethernet solution based on the UltraScale architecture can help companies develop 100G Ethernet switches and core routers to meet the increasing bandwidth requirements of mobile devices and cloud computing applications. In addition, 25G and 50G RS-FEC completes the design migration of downlink port links. RS-FEC can correct the inherent errors in these systems and support the use of low-cost multimode fiber or copper interconnect technology, thereby reducing total costs. The use of integrated 100G Ethernet MAC, PCS and RS-FEC logic can not only significantly reduce FPGA resource usage, maximize platform reuse, and reduce power consumption, but also can be migrated to future design solutions.
