Commercial smart lighting applications based on the Internet of Things (IoT) technology are expected to be implemented. Recently, the Bluetooth SIG and the Digital Illumination Interface Alliance (DiiA) announced a collaboration to accelerate the adoption of IoT commercial lighting systems. In the future, it will help more global lighting and sensor companies that join the DALI lighting platform to access the Bluetooth mesh standard.
The collaboration will enable certified Bluetooth mesh smart lighting control networks to be deployed on DALI-2 certified devices and D4i smart lighting devices, providing building managers with large-scale sensor networks to enable powerful new IoT-enabled lighting systems.
Silicon Labs (also known as "Silicon Technology") is a technology leader in Bluetooth solutions and continues to pay attention to the product and technology development of the industry's DALI lighting platform. It can provide developers with the latest Bluetooth mesh lighting solutions and reference designs to quickly enter the commercial smart lighting market. “The combination of Bluetooth mesh and DALI is a natural fit for the commercial lighting industry,” said Paul Drosihn, General Manager of DiiA. “Lighting systems that enable a wide range of sensors provide building managers with powerful and improved automated brightness and color control, advanced lighting performance monitoring (including energy usage and predictive maintenance), and new IoT capabilities such as asset tracking and indoor navigation.”
IoT commercial lighting systems include two key components: IoT lighting devices, including sensors and other devices; and IoT lighting control systems. DiiA's DALI-2 provides a certified lighting device ecosystem, including D4i smart lighting devices. Bluetooth mesh is the leading IoT standard for smart wireless lighting control networks. Through this collaboration, many leading companies in the lighting industry in the two alliances can now access standardized Bluetooth mesh technology for DALI-2 and D4i certified devices, combining the two standards to achieve interconnection with certified Bluetooth mesh lighting control networks.
“Commercial building owners around the world are being asked to improve the occupant experience while improving energy efficiency,” said Mark Powell, CEO of the Bluetooth SIG. “This collaboration on IoT-enabled smart lighting systems will provide building owners with the exact solutions they need.”
To simplify the product launch process, the Bluetooth SIG and DiiA are working together to help suppliers more easily complete the Bluetooth product certification and DALI-2 product certification process to ensure interoperability. This will also make Bluetooth mesh lighting control, combined with DALI-2 and D4i certified devices, the first choice for the professional lighting industry.
