Do you want to use the most fashionable MCU for design?

The opportunity has come!

Following last year's LPC dual-core competition, the 2019 NXP Cup MCU Challenge has kicked off. This competition will be based on NXP Semiconductors' latest generation of general-purpose microcontrollers, the LPC5500 series, and aims to promote more energy-efficient, smarter and safer MCU applications.

The LPC5500 series is the industry's first dual-core ArmCortex-M33-based microcontroller, using the latest generation of 40nm production technology to achieve more on-chip functions, and integrates hardware accelerator PowerQuad, efficient power management, larger storage space and other advantages, while improving performance while maintaining the lowest power consumption and cost advantages. In addition, the LPC5500 MCU series has established a complete ecosystem including MCUXpresso software and tools, which can help developers give full play to the advantages and characteristics of LPC5500 and create your own unique work!

To participate in this competition, please read the following points:

  • Before the competition, NXP will provide comprehensive training and guidance to the contestants.

  • As long as the competition proposal you submit is novel and convincing enough, you will get the LPCXpresso55S69 development board for free.

  • Submit complete work as required and you will have a chance to win a grand prize of up to 13,000 yuan!

For the specific competition strategy, follow me.

Listen to lectures and learn tips

As the saying goes, sharpening the knife saves time before chopping wood. Before the competition, NXP prepared three online technical training sessions for the contestants, so that you can have a more thorough understanding of the characteristics of LPC5500 and master more development secrets. The training details are as follows, welcome to watch ↓↓↓

Lecture 1

LPC5500 Series Introduction and Dual-core Applications

☞Lecturer : Niu Xiaodong, Senior System Application Engineer at NXP

☞ Date: August 22, 2019, 10:00~11:00 AM

☞Content Introduction:

This training starts with an overall introduction to the LPC5500 series, examining this high-performance, low-power, and high-security general-purpose MCU from six perspectives: core, peripherals, power consumption, performance, security, and applications.

At the same time, we will demonstrate the ease of use and versatility of the LPC5500 core Cortex-M33 by introducing the rapid porting of code from the Cortex-M4F core to the Cortex-M33 platform.

Finally, the unique dual-core functions and application methods of the LPC5500 series are introduced in detail.

Lecture 2

LPC5500 PowerQuad Hardware Acceleration

Coprocessor Introduction and Basic Usage

☞Lecturer : Su Yong, Senior System Application Engineer at NXP

Time: August 27, 2019, 10:00~11:00 AM

☞Content Introduction:

This training will introduce the LPC5500 series microcontrollers, the on-chip integrated PowerQuad math acceleration coprocessor and its basic usage.

In this tutorial, we will briefly introduce the hardware overview of PowerQuad, then explain the usage of several computing engines of PowerQuad from a practical perspective, and finally compare the computing functions accelerated by PowerQuad hardware with the pure software CMSIS-DSP, so that students can have a more specific understanding of the functions and performance of PowerQuad.

This tutorial is mainly aimed at practical application, and strives to enable students to get started with PowerQuad as soon as possible and use it in actual projects. Some in-depth and advanced topics about PowerQuad are not included in this tutorial. Interested students can further pay attention to the LPC5500 product homepage on the NXP official website to obtain more manuals, application notes and sample codes.

Lecture 3

How to use LPC5500 PowerQuad to accelerate

Computation of artificial neural networks

☞Lecturer : Su Yong, Senior System Application Engineer at NXP

Time: August 29, 2019, 10:00~11:00 AM

☞Content Introduction:

This training combines the application of artificial neural networks and introduces a development method for deploying artificial neural networks based on the PowerQuad hardware computing engine. It is compared with the implementation based on CMSIS-DSP, so that the acceleration effect of PowerQuad hardware acceleration compared to pure software computing can be actually seen.

In the example of this tutorial, the pytorch framework is used to train the model on the host computer. After obtaining the training parameters, they are imported into the project of the LPC5500 microcontroller, and the model is deployed on the LPC5500 for derivation and calculation.

Show your creativity and get a board

This is the most familiar routine for everyone - submit your competition ideas. As long as the ideas are good enough, NXP will provide you with the LPCXpresso55S69 development board for free as the competition development platform. With good equipment in hand, you will be invincible!

Development Board Introduction

The LPCXpresso55S69 development board provides an ideal platform for evaluating and developing the LPC55S6x MCU based on the Arm Cortex-M33 architecture. The board includes a high-performance onboard debugger, audio subsystem and accelerometer, and provides a variety of expansion interfaces, allowing for flexible addition of daughter boards for network communication, sensors, displays and other interfaces.

The LPCXpresso55S69 is fully supported by the MCUXpresso tool suite, which provides device drivers, middleware and examples for rapid development, as well as configuration tools and an optional free IDE.

MCUXpresso software is compatible with FreeRTOS, an open source MCU operating system from major tool vendors such as Arm and IAR, and the LPCXpresso55S69 can also be used with major hardware debuggers from SEGGER and P&E Micro.
