Recently, it was reported that the order for the A10 processor for Apple's iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has been handed over to TSMC, and the baseband chip will use Qualcomm's MDM9×45 LTE, also made by TSMC using 20nm HKMG process. Now, news about the baseband chip for iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus has also been revealed.

According to Taiwanese media The Motley Fool, iPhone7s and iPhone7s Plus will use Qualcomm's X16 baseband, which is consistent with previous news that Qualcomm's X16 LTE baseband will be put into commercial use in the second half of this year.

iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus are said to use Qualcomm's X16 baseband

It is understood that Qualcomm X16 baseband is Qualcomm's first gigabit-class LTE baseband chip, with a download rate of up to 1Gbps, which is quite fast. In terms of upload, it supports 20MHz carrier aggregation, 64-QAM, and a maximum rate of 150Mbps. In addition, it also supports LTE dual-card, LTE broadcast, VoLTE and full network access. Qualcomm X16 baseband uses Samsung's 14nm FinFET process. It is not known whether Qualcomm will give part of the baseband's orders to TSMC.

It is reported that the A11 processor of iPhone7s and iPhone7s Plus adopts the 10nm process technology. Currently, TSMC has made smooth progress on the 10nm process node and is likely to win the order for the A11 processor. However, Samsung is also advancing rapidly, striving to win the order for the A11 processor while meeting the needs of Snapdragon 830.
