ON Semiconductor, one of Silicon Valley's largest public companies, announced a name change on Thursday and launched a new brand with a sustainable vision.

ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ:ON) is now known as ONSEMI, a shift the company said is tied to its renewed focus on the environment. ONSEMI said it is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.

“Over the past few months, we have been focused on strategy and realigning our product portfolio and investments to deliver market-leading, differentiated technologies to our customers,” Hassane El-Khoury, president and CEO of Onsemi, said in a statement.

“We are creating intelligent power and sensing technologies to help our customers succeed, build a better future for the next generation, and create value for our shareholders, always with an eye toward sustainable development and making the world a better place.”

The Phoenix-based company makes computer components and sensors that end up in cars and industrial equipment, two end markets that account for a large portion of the world's greenhouse gas emissions.

For example, Onsemi sells components to Tesla, Mercedes-Benz, Honeywell, GM, and Nvidia, and among the company’s top 20 customers, each buys an average of 24 different product types.
