Industry 4.0, with the help of major technological advances in edge-to-cloud computing, analysis, and software-configurable systems, is expected to greatly improve productivity, flexibility, efficiency, and quality, and reduce the cost of implementation. It is also the consistent expectation of the world for the future of industry.
These advantages are so obvious, how to achieve them?
In which areas should we invest now?
How to prepare for the future?
You may not know that ADI has already planned a "fast lane" for equipment manufacturers to accelerate towards Industry 4.0~

Responding to the changing factory environment with confidence and confidence
Faced with powerful economic and technological forces, the way factories operate is changing rapidly. In this rapidly changing environment, factory equipment manufacturers who are good at adapting will thrive because they can develop systems with increasing levels of networking and intelligence, increase factory flexibility and safety, and continue to provide security for the entire system while expanding the scope of networking. The widespread use of automated and autonomous systems will reduce the dependence of factories on repetitive labor or complex manual operations.
Semiconductors will be at the heart of a new generation of industrial automation equipment, providing the necessary processing, control, and detection capabilities to ensure that these devices can operate effectively in a networked environment.
ADI has always thrived at the intersection of the analog and digital worlds, and has a personal understanding of the need for technological change in new factory automation equipment. With deep expertise in detection, signal conditioning, digital signal processing, wired and wireless connectivity, and software, ADI is able to effectively address the challenges faced by industrial customers, develop application-oriented solutions, and shorten the time to market for OEM manufacturers' products. ADI's goal is to help customers innovate through technology and prepare for future development, while providing continuous support for traditional systems by ensuring the long-term supply of industrial components.

Provides flexible general-purpose analog IO
The factory's demand for greater capacity and higher flexibility has driven the need for a more flexible IO (input/output) architecture.
At present, many traditional industrial application sites, including industrial automation or process control systems, have a large number of IO interfaces in their physical layer implementation, including analog and digital input and output. However, once customers have new demands or equipment is damaged, production numbers or systems change, a large number of IO interfaces need to be moved and changed as a whole, and production can only be resumed after readjustment. The whole process is time-consuming and labor-intensive.
In response to this, ADI launched software-defined IO, which greatly reduces the requirements for on-site construction personnel. Only by clearly marking the digital and analog types of the interface, correctly connecting the positive and negative signals, and combining the on-site implementation structure, the system can be fully operated through software. ADI's new generation of software-configurable technology creates a flexible system to support rapid reconfiguration, minimize downtime and capital investment, and easily adapt to changing needs. Making each IO software-configurable reduces the complexity of its own products, creates many direct opportunities for customers, and also lays the foundation for realizing the scale advantages brought by IT/OT integration.

Improving the efficiency of condition-based monitoring
The use of CbM in automation is already delivering on some of the productivity gains promised by Industry 4.0 by maximizing machine uptime and efficiency. Our MEMS vibration sensor technology combined with our precision converter, linear, isolation and power technologies are enabling the transformation of high-quality machine health data into actionable insights.
The ADcmXL3021 module is a complete detection system based on ADI's award-winning microelectromechanical system (MEMS) sensor technology, which improves production efficiency and reduces equipment maintenance by monitoring early indicators of mechanical fatigue and failure, and is suitable for a variety of industrial equipment and transportation vehicles. This three-axis vibration sensing module combines MEMS sensors with multiple signal processing functions in a compact form factor, which simplifies the development process and saves a lot of material costs for smart sensor nodes in CbM systems.
