FPC Design Specifications FPC Design Specifications 1. Purpose To standardize the design methods and unify the design standards of FPC, so as to improve the design level and efficiency of designers and ensure the rationality and reliability of the LCD module as a whole. 2. Scope of application: FPC designers in the development department 3. Introduction to FPC FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) is a flexible printed circuit board, also known as a soft board, which is made of a soft plastic base film (PI), copper foil (CU) and adhesive. It has excellent flexibility and reliability. 1. Structure and materials of FPC [pic] FPC can be divided into single-sided board, double-sided board, layered board, multi-layer layered board, and soft-hard board. FPCs with more than two layers are connected to each layer through vias. Our company often uses the first two types, and their structures are shown in the figure above. 1. Base film: The material is generally polyimide (PI), and polyester (PET). The material thickness is 12.5, 25, 50, 75, and 125um. Commonly used are 12.5 and 25um. PI is superior to PET in various performance aspects. 2. Copper foil layer (COPPER FOIL): There are two types of rolled copper (RA COPPER) and electrolytic copper (ED COPPER). The material thickness is 12.5, 18, 35, and 75um. Since rolled copper has better mechanical properties than electrolytic copper, rolled copper is preferred in FPCs that need to be bent frequently. The copper foil thickness of the main screen FPC is generally 12.5 or 18um; for hollow board FPC (such as the window type at the interface), 35um is required. 3. …
