The ADuM320x are dual-channel digital isolators using Analog Devices’ iCoupler® technology. These isolation devices combine high-speed CMOS with monolithic transformer technology to provide superior performance characteristics over alternatives such as optocouplers. iCoupler devices do not have the design difficulties typically associated with optocouplers because they do not use LEDs and photodiodes. The simple iCoupler digital interface and stable performance characteristics eliminate the current transfer ratio uncertainty, nonlinear transfer function, and temperature and lifetime effects that are typical of optocouplers. These iCoupler products do not require external drivers and other discrete components. In addition, iCoupler devices consume only 1/10 to 1/6 of the power of optocouplers at comparable signal data rates. The ADuM320x isolators provide two independent isolation channels in a variety of channel configurations and data rates (see the Ordering Guide section of the data sheet). Both devices can operate with a supply voltage from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, making them compatible with low voltage systems and enabling voltage translation across the isolation barrier. The ADuM320x isolators have a patented refresh feature that ensures dc correctness in the absence of input logic transitions and during power-up/power-down conditions. The ADuM320x isolators contain several circuit and layout improvements compared to the ADuM120x isolators, and system-level IEC 61000-4-x tests (ESD, surge, and glitch) show significantly enhanced performance. For either the ADuM120x or ADuM320x products, the accuracy of these tests depends primarily on the design and layout of the user\'s board or module.
