At present, IP networks are more deeply affected by abnormal behaviors such as self-failures and network attacks than in the past. Therefore, it is particularly important to enhance the fault tolerance and intrusion tolerance capabilities of IP networks. However, many current studies only focus on one aspect, and few focus on both, which cannot give a good balance between security and survivability. This paper proposes an effective fault tolerance and intrusion tolerance mechanism based on trust relationships. The mechanism borrows the idea of trust relationships in social networks and quantitatively describes the corresponding relationship between trust relationship values and network behaviors - malicious behavior of a node will reduce its trust value at other nodes. Then, the mechanism is analyzed to analyze its tolerance for three types of network anomalies, namely self-failures, defamation attacks, and contradictory behavior attacks. Finally, simulation results and analysis show that the mechanism can quickly and accurately detect abnormal nodes and effectively prevent these anomalies from attacking and destroying the network.
