The use of multifunctional terminals to form a small satellite communication network requires that each terminal can support a variety of external devices like a computer and realize networking functions. The use of ARM processors that can support embedded Linux operating systems can well meet this demand. This paper focuses on the embedded software based on ARM processors in this intelligent terminal and its implementation. The main contents are: (1) Based on the analysis of the characteristics of embedded systems, ARM processors, and Linux operating systems, the feasibility and superiority of this solution for realizing networking multifunctional terminals based on ARM processors and Linux operating systems are demonstrated. (2) The composition, development process and steps of the embedded system are introduced, and an embedded system development and debugging platform is built, including software development tools, hardware debugging tools, software components, etc. (3) The requirements of the satellite communication network terminal are analyzed, and the hardware configuration of this system is elaborated in detail, including ARM processors, memory and input/output interfaces. (4) The design goals of the software part of this system are demonstrated, and a software structure solution is proposed, including the selection and development goals of Bootloader, LinuX kernel, file system, graphical user interface, and network application. (5) Complete the design and implementation of the ARM embedded software platform, including the modification and porting of U-Boot, the porting and tailoring of the Linux system kernel, the production of embedded Linux file systems, the installation and programming basis of the graphical user interface, and the design of drivers in the Linux system. Keywords: satellite communication network, ground terminal, embedded system, ARM, Linux
