Observation and drawing of metallographic structure of cast iron (gray cast iron, ductile cast iron, malleable cast iron) (verification experiment) I. Experimental objectives and requirements 1. Understand and recognize the metallographic characteristics of the stone mill and metal matrix in gray cast iron. 2. Understand and recognize the organizational characteristics of the stone mill and metal matrix in ductile cast iron, malleable cast iron, and vermicular cast iron. 3. Learn the metallographic inspection methods of gray cast iron. 4. Learn the metallographic inspection methods of ductile cast iron. 5. Understand the method of making cast iron metallographic specimens. II. Experimental content 1. Observe and draw the metallographic structure of the following gray cast irons: (1) Gray cast iron with type A distributed stone mill (test piece is not corroded). (2) Gray cast iron with type B distributed stone mill (test piece is not corroded). (3) Gray cast iron with type C distributed stone mill (test piece is not corroded). (4) Gray cast iron with type D distributed stone mill (test piece is not corroded). (5) Gray cast iron with type E distributed stone mill (test piece is not corroded). (6) Gray cast iron with F-type distribution stone mill (test piece not eroded). And conduct graphite length test on type A graphite to determine the graphite length classification. (7) Select 1~2 pieces of gray cast iron samples and conduct matrix structure analysis after etching; determine the type of gray cast iron matrix, pearlite quantity, pearlite dispersion, phosphorus eutectic quantity and classification, carbide quantity, etc. (8) Gray cast iron with binary phosphorus eutectic (test piece eroded) observe the phosphorus eutectic structure. 2. Observe and draw the following metallographic structures of ductile iron and malleable cast iron: (1) the as-cast structure of ductile iron (including the as-cast structure with free cementite), (2) the annealed metallographic structure of ductile iron (ferrite structure), (3) the normalized or partially austenitic normalized metallographic structure of ductile iron, (4) the quenched or tempered metallographic structure of ductile iron, (5) the austempered metallographic structure of ductile iron, (6) select 1-2 as-cast or heat-treated ductile iron specimens for identification of spheroidization rate and metal matrix.
