ARM co-founder launches "SAVE ARM" campaign to intervene in NVIDIA acquisition [Copy link]

Semiconductor company ARM Holding has once again made history with the largest tech acquisition in UK history. Over the weekend, NVIDIA announced that it would acquire ARM from SoftBank in an all-stock transaction worth $40 billion, surpassing the $32 billion SoftBank paid for the company in 2016.

However, the acquisition was not smooth and was opposed by many people and companies. The strongest opposition came from ARM co-founder Hermann Hauser, who launched a petition campaign hoping that the British government would intervene in the deal or choose to go public with government support.

Hermann Hauser, who co-founded the company in 1990 as a spin-off from Acorn Computers, has written an open letter to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in which he said he was "extremely concerned" about the deal and how it would affect jobs in the country, ARM's business model and the future of the country's economic sovereignty independent of the United States and American interests.

Hauser has also set up a website to gather public support, savearm.co.uk, and has begun collecting signatures from business people and others. He called on the government to intervene, or at least create legally binding terms tied to the deal to guarantee jobs, create a way to enforce that Nvidia does not receive more favorable treatment than other licensees, and secure exemptions from CFIUS oversight.
